How Do You Keep Fruit Salad Fresh?

Add a little lemon or lime juice to your fruit salad to stop fruits from oxidizing, and keep your fruit salad in the refrigerator to keep it from going mushy.

This should keep your salad “fresh” for at least the following day

It’s sweet deliciousness. It seems a little wrong to take all of those healthy berries and turn them into a calorie fest with everything you put in this dish, but guess what, WORTH IT!!

My family loves this recipe. However, the cheesecake pudding mix is getting harder to find. Any suggestions for a substitute? Thank you

Hi Katie! I know!! It is making me so sad! I’ve actually started to use just vanilla pudding mix and then add a little softened cream cheese to the mixture to get that tang. About a half a brick or maybe a little less will do it.

Hi Michelle, Frozen fruit is tricky because it becomes so soft and so much excess liquid comes out. 🙁 If it’s drained really well or it’s your own fresh frozen fruit it has a better chance of working out.

Do the bananas brown quickly, or does the cheesecake mixture keep them yellow? I am making this soon, but don’t want brown bananas in the mix if it takes a few days to eat it. Thanks for sharing!

I simply added a couple Tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to my sliced bananas and coated them well before adding. They didn’t turn brown at all.

Ours don’t really brown as we coat them in the fluff so quickly, but as mentioned in the comments you could always add a little lemon juice. Enjoy!

Made this for the 2nd time last night. It was the best ever and pretty much guilt free.
I used the sugar free fat free pudding powder and sugar free coolwhip. But what really made it good and taste like cheese cake was, I used Yoplait Greek 100 strawberry cheesecake yogurts. It was so good. I also used a peach, raspberries, blueberries, grapes and a banana. Hubby loved it.

        • Sweet Basil

            GENIUS!! I love that idea!

      • Terri

        • Reply

You can easily make it taste more like cheese cake by mixing the dry pudding mix with one package cream cheese, then mix in the cool whip. Using plain Greek yogurt instead of strawberry also helps towards that end. Just sweeten it up a bit to taste with your choice of sweetener.

Can you use plain yogurt instead of the strawberry yogurt. You could hardly taste the cheesecake flavor. I am thinking the plain yogurt would probably be better so that you could taste the flavor of the cheesecake

        • Sweet Basil

          • Reply

I think the pudding is just light on the flavor. You could try adding half a package more and doing plain yogurt. I’ll have to experiment too!

          • Katrina Swilley

I used the Vanilla yogurt and it was better to me. But still not a real strong cheesecake flavor.

            • Katrina Swilley

It would not hurt to add a half of pack more of the cheesecake pudding? I guess I am just looking for a stonger flavor of cheesecake. Love the recipe. I have made it twice in a weeks time. First time w/ strawberry yogurt and the second time w/ vanilla yogurt. Some people liked the strawberry and others liked the vanilla better.

              Hi Karla,
You can’t really tell it’s yogurt, but if you wanted to you could try using double the cool whip and adding a little strawberry cream cheese instead. That would be delicious as well!

              • Karla

Thanks so much for the cream cheese idea. I will definitely try that. It sure looks like a good salad…karla

                Hi friends,
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and to talk about the fruit salad. I apologize if the recipe wasn’t or still isn’t clear. I’m so grateful for my readers and the comments and while I know that we all don’t know each other personally I do hope this will be received in the best way. Please, let’s keep things positive and kind. I appreciate you all so much, but I don’t think that being unkind ever brings much to the world other than more negativity. Thanks!

Use your common sense and reread what you think were mistakes. No where does it say packages. Also it says to mix the pudding mix with the yogurt and cool whip which will make the liquid then fold in the fruit carefully.Don’t be so quick to criticize.

Would you make some corrections to your recipe…

Read over responses and noticed… some asking about pudding — could you state “dry” in ingredient list/directions.

Also, it is typed… 1 instant cheesecake pudding packages –believe it should be package without “s” since it is only 1.

Sorry… about pointing this out. 🙁

I do love your recipes and the time you put into it but when questions come up about recipes – would you address that in recipe – having to read through the responses is very time-consuming.
